Sunday 1 October – Up north

Current location: Noto
11.11am, Leaving Noto to go to Cornino, our home for the next two nights. We meant to leave early, but a late night meant we had a slow start to the day. We decided to take the scenic route, so took the whole day to drive north, stopping at some beaches and Gibellina, which was a town completely destroyed by earthquakes last century. An artist has since covered the remains with cement and made an art installation, and it's shockingly stunning. So eerie and kind of sad, but beautiful. It was made even stranger by there being an illegal rave going on when we got there, so it was all a bit scary and bizarre, but kind of cool.
When we got to Cornino, we had a wine on the house owner's balcony, with his friends, then we walked to get casatelle, a local specialty pasta. It was so cheap and local here, not at all touristy, and the food was so good. We walked back along the beachfront and had an earlyish night after a long day of driving.
