Saturday 28 March - So lazy

11.11am, Reading my book on the sofa. Today I had one of the laziest days I have ever had, including staying in bed for hours, reading my book, eating yummy rice box lunch, having a walk to Mousehole, and then the fun came in the evening. We had a Zoom pub quiz with the uni girls and lads, and it was soooo funny, and I felt so connected to them even though I couldn't hug them.

Friday 27 March - My dad's 70th, reimagined

11.11pm, Chatting to the Aus girls (Sha, Bree, Jess). It was my third social occasion of the evening, all from my computer, haha. Before a chat with them, I had a Friday night 'pub' hangout with my home friends, and it was so fun. We started off in Houseparty but it was too confusing, and like the virtual equivalent of us going to a bar, it being too noisy, people doing shots around us and us comparing we can't hear ourselves think, so we left and went to Zoom, which was like a much quieter nicer bar with a cold glass of Pinot Grigio. We had a great catch-up and lots of wines.

However, the really lovely and exciting part of the day, was my amazing dad's 70th birthday! We'd had a weekend away with all of us and a party planned, but obviously none of that could go ahead. I snuck around early this morning and hung up some banners and badges, so when Dad opened the curtain he would see all the Happy Birthday signs. Then after work, Andy and I went round and stood in their huge garden (as did the Pyrahs, in another section of the huge garden) and we sung Happy Birthday to him and had a beer from a distance, and watched him eat cake. So surreal, but actually lovely. Then we went home, got our party dresses on, and all joined in a Zoom call to have a party with Dad, where he opened his pressies, we sung and danced and celebrated our amazing dad. He's ace.
Today was a real celebration day, but so different to how it would have looked even a month ago. My poor dad not getting the 70th celebration he deserves, but I cannot WAIT until we can make up for that, hopefully before too long.

Thursday 26 March - At least I am running more!

11.11am, Working. Literally nothing noteworthy today, except I went for a big run after work, 7.5 miles along the seafront. We're only allowed to exercise once a day, and it has to be to and from our house (no driving to get anywhere) so I am making it count. So much so that I have blisters now.

Wednesday 25 March - Essential supplies

11.11am, Working. At lunchtime I walked out to Long Rock in the beautiful sunshine, and went to the supermarket. It was eerily quiet and people were really avoiding each other; even avoiding contact. The guy serving me had only started work there today, as he'd been laid off from his factory job, and the supermarkets are desperate for people. Usually he would have had weeks training but he was just put straight out there today, thanks to the urgent need. It's kind of weird and amazing to see all these 'processes' that existed before don't really need to. The only other news was the amount of bargains I got - 5p for broccoli, limes, asparagus, raspberries etc.

Monday 23 March - Week two of social distancing begins

Current location: Newlyn
11.11am, At home. I might as well take off 'Current location' from these blog posts for the foreseeable future, for obvious reasons.
Today I'm on netball job, and while when I woke up I was quite happy not to be driving for an hour to get to the office, very quickly my gratitude got replaced with anxiety. Today feels weird. I don't know if it's news that people have started to die from Coronavirus in Cornwall, news that people we know have the virus, the feeling of week 2 without much changing (except getting scarier) but most of the novelty and positivity has gone, and in its place are some weird feelings. It's a beautiful sunny day but I haven't gone outside. It should be a busy time netball but instead the balls are in the attic. There should be weddings galore but instead people are cancelling or postponing. Everything is changing, and yet every day is exactly the same.
Andy and I are going for a walk shortly to a remote clifftop to try and blow some cobwebs away.
Edit: Tonight further restrictions were announced, so we can't see or exercise with anyone we don't live with. So so glad Mum and I got the walk in yesterday.

Sunday 22 March – Weird old Mother's Day

Current location: Newlyn
11.11am, At home. Always at home! This morning I was determined to be a bit productive, so I sorted out some clothes for the charity shop and then started painting a desk. In the afternoon I met my mum and we had the loveliest walk for Mother's Day. We were really careful not to walk too close, and had a gorgeous remote walk towards Lamorna along the cliff path. I adored it and felt very lucky that my mum is here to talk me down from anxiety-ridden metaphorical ledges! This is such a strange time, and not being able to hug or kiss my mum really sucked, but being able to stroll in the sunshine and talk to her was really really special. Probably even more so than normal.

Friday 20 March – Here goes Friday night

Current location: Newlyn
11.11pm, Having some drinks at home with Andy. What a difference a week makes, let alone a month. Tonight it's Friday night, so we got takeaway burgers from a restaurant in town, Mermaid Alley, plus margarita ingredients, and did a pub quiz online with our friends from London. This week has been so bizarre, it's almost beyond explanation. More and more restrictions, who we're allowed to see, what we're allowed to do. As of tomorrow, all bars, cafes and restaurants will be ordered to close.  We are feeling lucky we are back together in the same place, in a flat we love, and feeling healthy. But I am so so nervous about family and loved ones and vulnerable people, and the effect on our jobs, our economy, our mental health. Who knows what's coming?

Monday 16 March – Strange times indeed

Current location: On a train
11.11am, On my way back home. I can't believe how quickly it's all felt so weird. I got the tube to Paddington today in rush hour and it was so quiet. Everyone has been instructed to work from home if they can, and my day today was taken up mainly with fielding queries from people about what's happening with netball. By the time I got home tonight, I had the answer, as England Netball have now restricted all sport. (The next day, the government would too). Andy and I stocked up on some basic essentials from Lidl this evening, then I went to bed feeling very strange indeed.

Sunday 15 March – Netball in a strange time

Current location: Mitcham
11.11am, At my course assessment day. Over the weekend, the Coronavirus restrictions have got heavier and stricter, and it feels very weird to be here today doing our course. It's such a fun group though and it was a great day, with us all passing our Level 2! Hooray!
I went back home, chilled out with the Rees family and got ready for my early start tomorrow.

Saturday 14 March – Creative in the city

Current location: London
11.11am, At Jake and Ella's school. We were having a craft morning, and I did some printmaking, which was so fun! In the afternoon, I went to Watford to see my uncle, who is in a rehab facility there at the moment after having had a stroke. It was ace but sad to see him, but I am glad I was able to, especially with the upcoming Coronavirus restrictions - if I hadn't gone today, I don't know when the next time he'd be allowed visitors will be. I went back to Balham and saw Kate and the kids, then we had a quiet eve watching TV and I to prepared for my course assessment day tomorrow.

Thursday 12 March – Working from (Emma's) home

Current location: Totnes
11.11am, Working from Emma's table. At lunchtime I went to meet Brodie and Jessie, and we had a yummy Japanese lunch, then after work, we stand chatted for hourrrrrrs. I love this girl so much.
The news has been on a lot today, and the restrictions are getting heavier. I'm meant to be travelling to London for my course tomorrow, and am waiting to hear whether it's being postponed or not, but as schools are still open and sport is still allowed (it's a netball coaching course), I guess they're thinking it's OK.

Wednesday 11 March – Work and workshops

Current location: East Midlands
11.11am, In some workshops, learning how to be awesome at my job. I started this morning very early and slightly hungover so shook it off with a run (not the most scenic area but I found a bit of grass!) and then headed back to the hotel to meet the others. The morning and afternoon were both really insightful and I found them really useful, then we jumped back in the car and I got a lift to Bristol Parkway. From there it was a short trip to Totnes, where I was staying at Emma's. The threat of Coronavirus was already pretty evident; no one was standing near each other, there were more people in masks, but that was all for the moment really. I got to Emma's at about 9pm, and we had a drink and a catch-up and I finally went to sleep, many hours after waking up.

Tuesday 10 March – England Netball conference

Current location: East Midlands
11.11am, At an all-staff conference. We had a mega early start this morning from Bridgwater (where I stayed last night), to get up here for 10am, when the conference began. It was so nice to see everyone, and meet new people at England Netball that had previously just been names on an email, and we had a hilarious afternoon of coming up with a new product, as well as talks by some really inspiration people. Feeling very fired about and proud of netball!

In the evening, we all got dressed up for a cocktail party, where we ate, drank, danced and I bloody loved it all. Feeling so grateful and proud I get to work for the governing body of my favourite sport.

Sunday 8 March – Pyrah playtime

Current location: Penzance
11.11am, At the Pyrahs' house. Again, looking back at that it seems strange, as it's now been so long since I've been in anyone's house! Pip and I (and Nancy) went for a run this morning out towards Long Rock, and then came back and I hung with Bea for a bit. Treasured times now I look back and know that was the last time for a while.

Saturday 7 March – Strolling without seeing people

Current location: Newlyn
11.11am, At home after working out with Kate in Hayle. In the afternoon, Andy and I went for a walk down to Penberth Cove, an area we rarely go to but which is so beautiful, and we were hoping pretty quiet. It was! Then we went to Drift Reservoir, also quiet, and then Andy headed off to work. I'm not sure how much longer the bar will stay open for, with the current Coronavirus threat, but I guess he'll keep working there while it's open.

Friday 6 March – Porthleven evening

Current location: Porthleven
11.11am, At work. I saw Molly today and baby Eben, which was ace as I haven't seen her/them for ages. It was a beautiful afternoon, so after work Andy and I went to Porthleven, where we had a walk and then a quick pint at the Ship, where our friend Eddie came to meet us too.

Sunday 1 March – Quiet St Ives

Current location: Newlyn
11.11am, Having a slow Sunday morning. In the afternoon, Andy and I got rugged up, and walked from Lelant along the coast path to St Ives, rewarding ourselves with a pasty and a pint, then walking back again. We got back in time to pick up a few bottles of nice wine from Scarlet Wines, then had a cosy Sunday evening.

Saturday 29 February – Those small things

Current location: Penzance
11.11am, In town. This morning, Pip and I nipped over to Mum and Dad's to help him move a sofa, then I had brekky at Mum's and we walked into town together. Such small things but now, looking back at a time when we're not allowed to be seeing each other, such important things. I miss her!

Tuesday 25 February – Team meetings

Current location: Eastleigh
11.11am, At a team meeting for my netball job. I met all the other south and south-west ladies at a leisure centre in Eastleigh, and after our meeting, we had a game of Walking Netball. It was so fun and made me remember how great this game is!
Afterwards, we had a pub lunch, then a drive back to Taunton, where I got the train to Penzance. A long day but a good day.

PS I took no photos so here's a lush picture of Cornwall

Monday 24 January – Libraries and lock-outs and ladies

Current location: Lewisham
11.11pm, Going to sleep at Rianne's house. I'd met her and Clare Vooght for dinner in London Bridge earlier (where the waiter for got to put our order in so we ate dinner very late!), and before that had worked from the library at Palmers Green for the day. It was fab actually, and I got to meet Sarah and Dylan for lunch too. I had it all planned out, I was going back to Cat's to grab my suitcase, post the key back through the door, then head to London Bridge for our dinner. So, I closed the door behind me, posted the key through - and realised I'd left my suitcase inside. I am an idiot. So I sat on Cat's doorstep for a while to wait for her to come home from work, then carried on with my eve, albeit a bit late. Oops.
