Wednesday 22 September – Scilly Day 6 on Tresco

11.11am, Walking! Today we came to Tresco, and we started with a visit to the Abbey Gardens. It's an amazing, expansive gardens with plants and fruit and trees from all over the world. I loved the Aussie bit with eucalyptus and wattle and banksia and all sorts, and there are epic views from the gardens too, as well as a very cool shell house. We also went to Valhalla, an exhibition of figureheads and signs from shipwrecks on Scilly over the past couple of hundred years. So fascinating (and sad).

After the Abbey Gardens, we walked through another nature trail and made it to our fave place to eat/sit/while away some time: Ruin Beach Cafe. It was another glorious day (we've been so lucky with the weather!) and we sat out with cocktails and a charcuterie board plus the most amazing crab, and just chilled in the sunshine. Afterwards we went for a pier walk then to the most amazing beach ever, Block House Beach. It was honestly breathtaking, like a paradise island. The water was so cold and refreshing, and it felt like another world.

A speedy walk back to the boat, we went for a little hang at Porthcressa when we got to St Marys, then got a takeaway pizza (even though we were still pretty full!) and went home for a gentle evening chill.
