Friday 17 September – To Scilly!

11.11am, On the Scillonian. It's a pretty horrible boat that takes you from Penzance to the Isles of Scilly... Well, the boat itself is nice, but the crossing is renowned for being pretty sea-sicky and choppy. This morning the weather was AWFUL, with a hectic storm and very choppy seas (to the point they said we might not sail). Well, sail we did, and Andy and I set ourselves up on the little beds downstairs, put podcasts on, closed our eyes and tried to sleep through the worst of it, which pretty much worked. About three hours later, we arrived on St Mary's to clear skies, and our holiday began!

We went straight for some lunch at Dibble & Grub on Porthcressa beach, and sat out the last of the rain, then walked up to our apartment for a lazy afternoon. We're staying in a lovely little self-catering room with a fab conservatory so it's light and quiet and going to be great for the chilled week ahead. After a lazy afternoon, we went out to do some food shopping (at a very empty supermarket, the downsides of staying on an island) and then found the island's skate park, where Andy had a shred for a bit. We then went to the beach for a bit, before going home and having drinks in the garden, then out for dinner at On The Quay. Pretty great first day!
