Monday 20 September – Scilly Day 4 on St Martins

11.11am, Walking! This holiday so far has taken a bit of a similar theme every day: get up and have a slow brekky (or, this morning, watching netball), head out for the day with a backpack of food, swimming stuff and a book, and get walking! We've been walking loads and I love it, stopping to eat, for a swim, for a lazy beach hang, then back home for a lovely chill evening. Just what we needed from the holiday!

Today we got the boat to St Martins, which we didn't get to visit last time we came to Scilly. What a beautiful island! I'd stayed here for a week as a child with my mum and sisters, and I couldn't remember a lot of it but as we walked around the island, I started to recognise the house we'd stayed in, the pier where we jumped off etc.

Our mammoth walk today (21km) took in so many amazing places: Burnt Hill, where I felt totally peaceful and embraced the elements, so many gorgeous coves and beaches, then snacks at the bakery where all that was left was a bacon bite and a cookie (perfect!). Then we hung out at Lawrances Bay, and had a swim and a chill at Par Beach. It was such a beautiful day, on an incredible island with clear (cold!) water and white sands, and such diverse landscape, I loved it.

In the evening, once we got back to St Marys, we had dinner at Juliet's, which has an incredible view (and a beautiful sunset came out for us too) and really good seafood. I love being able to (having to!) walk everywhere here and just the slower pace.
