Thursday 15 November – Here I go again

Current location: Hayle
11.11am, At a physio appointment, with a specialist knee physio. I was crying, because he’d just told me I had ruptured my right ACL. This is two-and-half-years after I ruptured my left ACL, 20 months since I had a reconstruction, and 3 months since I started playing netball again. I did it last night, at netball training, and all the telltale signs were there but I just didn’t want to believe it. I went to the fracture clinic in the afternoon, where I met the surgeon, who confirmed it, and I spent most of the rest of the afternoon crying in anger and disbelief. In the evening, I dosed myself up on painkillers and got in a minibus with the rest of my netball team and went to coach/watch/cheer them on as they had a netball match. They bossed it, of course they did, and I left feeling so proud and just delighted that I’m part of this team, instead of quite so gutted.
