Wednesday 30 March - Day of dreams

Current location: Kitzbühel, Austria
11.11pm, Fast asleep. I'd had one of the best days of my whole Austria experience, and it had completely tired me out. Earlier in the day, Andy and I had headed up the mountain to where there is a tiny and beautiful church. Andy had built a jump for the boys to do a snowboard trick on and, soon, about 15 of our friends turned up. The sun was out and the backdrop was amazing, as were all the boys' skills.

After an hour or two of barbecuing, chatting and generally being in awe of such an amazing day, a mountain fun-spoiler came and told us that, because we'd missed the last lift, we were almost certainly going to die trying to snowboard down the mountain. Although this wasn't true (the last lift had gone, but plenty of people ride safely all the way down the mountain), it didn't do much to put my nerves at ease!

Anyway, we rode down most of the mountain with no dramas; it was a beautiful evening and we then decided to stop on the hillside to finish our barbecue and enjoy the last hour or two of the sunshine. Sitting looking out over the mountains and the town, with a sausage in one hand and a beer in the other, and surrounded by lovely people, it was hands-down one of the best days ever.
