Wednesday 31 December – New Year's Eve, Sydney-style

Current location: Balmain
11.11pm, Playing games and eating. It's New Year's Eve! We were in Balmain, where a family friend has an apartment. They went up the coast to stay at David and Val's house, we we came to theirs and had a change of scenery. We started the evening at Nick and Bree's in Paddington, having a barbie and some champers in the sunshine, and welcoming our good friend Colin who has moved to Sydney with his girlfriend Christabel. Then Andy and I hopped on our bikes and rode the 10km (ish) through the city to Balmain, where Dave and Val were waiting with loads of food and wine. Nick, Bree, Colin and Christabel got the ferry over and joined us, as well as another friend Tim, and the none of us got stuck into the champers and cheese. We went over to the park to watch the 9pm fireworks, and we had a beautiful view of the Harbour Bridge, as well as the Parramatta fireworks. Double whammy! It was so cool!

We went back to the apartment for more games and wine and food, then came back out for the midnight fireworks. It was such a good crew, and everyone was on such good form, but it was the perfect combo of chilled-ness and fun too. After another hour or so of eating, drinking and laughing, Andy and I hopped back on our bikes and wobbled home, where I Skyped my sister and stayed up too late. Happy New Year!
