Sunday 26 January – Happy Australia Day!!

Current location: On the road south
11.11am, In the car! After our epic camping adventure last night, Jess and I rose early to a lovely sunny day, took our tent down and drove straight to the beach for a morning swim. It is so ridiculously gorgeous up here, I definitely want to come back!

We had a bit of a walk, some coffee and breakfast, and then got back on the road. The best bit was that Jess let me listen to Australiana all the way home! Home Aong the Gum Trees, Beer with Duncan, Still Call Australia Home – we had the whole spectrum of awesomeness! Despite a few minor hiccups on the drive, we got back to Sydney safe and sound, and then I had a few hours' TV watching and napping. By the time everyone was ready to go again, it was late afternoon, and a group of us went to a pub in Marrickville to have a few Australia Day drinks.

The only problem with rocking up to the pub late in the afternoon was that most people had been in there since the pub opened, so we all felt very old and very sober! It was a cool atmosphere though, and after an hour or so we popped across the road to where there was a mini festival with markets etc in Marrickville Park. We grabbed some food from one of the stalls and then suddenly, fireworks started!!! We had no idea there was going to be a fireworks display and at that precises moment we'd lost each other on the search for food, so I was with the person I started my day with: Jess! We oohed and aahed and felt very lucky to be in Australia (both being English) and having such a lovely life!

One more stop off in the Newtown Social Club on the way home for a final drink and to watch the end of the tennis, and I went to bed before 11.11pm, happy and Aussie and smiling.
