Sunday 25 November - First day of exploring

Current location: Gran Canaria
11.11am, Exploring. The boys had gone off surfing early so Ruth and I had a lovely lie-in then enjoyed breakfast on the balcony. After a very lazy morning, we wandered into the town to have a little look around and eat ana amazing lunch of great calamari and bad wine. I was already getting a little obsessed with Canarian potatoes (on menus as 'wrinkled potatoes'), which are basically really salty cold potatoes that you dip in a sauce of Mojo Rojo.

After being pretty pleased with such a sunny morning, we got a message from the boys telling us to take cover as there was a storm coming. Within seconds of reading the message, the heavens opened and it began to rain, a lot. We got the feeling that doesn't happen much in the Canary Islands as everyone was entranced by the rain, and the entire restaurant watched a guy shaking rainwater off his plastic roof, then cheered when he succeeded. Weird!

When the sun came out again, we headed back up the hill to meet the boys, then all went off to the seaside. The boys went back in the sea and Ruth and I read our books, walked on the cliffs and watched an amaaaaaaazing sunset. This island is beautiful! To round off an awesome first day of holiday, we went to a restaurant on the beach and shared a huge paella. Woop!
